Dalit Boy does it again

A Dalit Boy has topped again. Hope the Dalits remember this boy, Jatinder Kumar, who topped in the Punjab State 10th Class two years ago. The same boy again topped in this year's Punjab State 10+2 examination. The entire community is proud of boy's achievements. Hoshiarpur boy tops board

SAS NAGAR/HOSHIARPUR, JUNE 14: Jatinder Kumar of Giani Kartar Singh Memorial College, Tanda, Hoshiarpur district, has topped the Punjab State Education Board's 10+2 examinations, results of the Science, Agriculture and Commerce streams of which were declared today.

Jatinder, a science student, has secured 425 marks out of 450; he had topped the matriculation as well.

Shefali, a medical student from Hansraj Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, has came second with 416 marks. The third position was secured by Amanpreet Singh, also of GKSM College, Tanda, with 412 marks.

Controller of Examinations Harcharan Jit Kaur, who announced the publication of the results today, said that 57.95 per cent of the science stream students had cleared the examinations, while the pass percentage for the commerce exam was 50.39 per cent.

Interestingly, none of the four candidates supposed to appear for the Agriculture stream examinations took their papers. The specialised course was introduced to attract rural students, but appears to have fallen flat on its face.

While the private candidates' results have already been despatched, the gazette for the science stream will be available by June 17. Commerce candidates will get their results by June 20. Candidates can also access their results on www.punjab -school.org and result.egurucool.com.

Meanwhile, in Hoshiarpur, while Jatinder's mother Kamlesh Kalsi said she was overjoyed with the news, the topper behaved as if he was expecting it. ``Though I wasn't overconfident, I knew I had done well and hoped to bag the top position'', he told ENS.

Jatinder said he ``relished'' studies. ``I gave most of my time to studies and watched TV only occasionally'', he said. ``My father is a retired lecturer in political science and is very ambitious for his children'', he said. Jatinder's sister, incidentally, is a doctor and his brother is a computer Engineer.

Jatinder also dreams of becoming a doctor.
